The body of Alejandro Hernández García was found on 4 June, 2018, next to that of his companion Florencio Pérez Nájera. Both men had several wounds made by a sharp object that was probably a machete. The pair had participated in a meeting in the community of Llano Largo, in the department of Jutiapa, a few days earlier but never returned.
Alejandro, like Florencio, was a member of the Los Cerritos Jutiapa branch of the Comité de Desarrollo Campesino (CODECA.)
Alejandro was father to eight children. He focused on the rights to land and territory, the rights of agricultural workers and the nationalisation of private services.
In the month of May four other Guatemalan human rights defenders, all campesino leaders, were killed. They are Mateo Chamán Paau, Luis Arturo Marroquin, José Can Xol y Ramón Choc Sacrab.
