In the hours of Sunday morning, September 2, teacher Amparo Fabiola Rodríguez Muchavisoy, a member of the village Kamentsa and teacher in the Alto Sardinas school, of the Centro Educativo Atún Ñami, and her husband Alonso Taicus Guanga, a village farmer and member of the Awa people, were murdered.

The killing apparently carried out by hired gunmen, took place at 9:30 a.m. in the indigenous reservation Playa Larga, located in the village of Florida Alto Sardinas, in the village of La Castellana, located three hours from the municipality of Villagarzón, Putumayo, residence of the Taicus Rodriguez family. The daughter of the couple was wounded in the attack.

A worker of the farm was the one who notified the authorities, to whom he pointed out that three individuals arrived at the house in which the couple lived and committed the act.

According to the Human Rights Network, in the department of Putumayo 12 social leaders have been killed in 2018.

The local authorities indicated that there were no complaints against the teacher or threats. Nor was there a record of any risk analysis or protection measures.
