Angie Ferreira Midence

Angie Ferreira Midence was a young transgender, graduated teacher and student in Universidad Pedagógica Nacional Francisco Morazán (UNPFM). She was a defender of LGBT rights and coordinator of the women trans group ‘Las Muñecas’ of the Asociación Arcoíris de Tegucigalpa.

Angie was murdered in the early hours of the 25th of June 2015 in Comayagüela, Distrito Central, Honduras.

She was shot from a black vehicle while she walked on the street with three other friends. The police patrol assigned to that part of the city arrived shortly but according to her friends from the Arcoiris association, “Angie, still alive, asked for help, and the police agents did not let anyone help and did not want to take her to the emergency services. Police just left her to dye”.

LGBT associations and other Human Rights organizations denounced “the transphobic attitude of the agents of this patrol MI-95 as they could have provided Angie with emergency assistance but did not want to”.

Few days after her murdered, the 29th of June 2015, several LGBT organizations met with representatives of the Public Department, the National Commission for Human Rights (CONADEH) and the Ministry for Justice, Human Rights and Decentralization, to form the Plataforma Nacional de Seguimiento de Muertes Violentas (National Platform for the Follow-up of Violent Deaths)
