Social leader Antonio María Vargas Madrid was killed on the 31st of January 2018 in the  San José de Uré municipality. According to the witnesses, armed men came to the Ilusión region, entered the victim’s house and shot him several times. According to a human right organization CORDOBEXIA those were the same criminals that killed another social leader – Plinio Pulgarín.

Vergas Madrid was the treasurer of the JAC in the Ilusión region. On top of that, he was a signatory of the agreement in favour of the collective substitution of coca production in the south of Córdoba. Aforementioned Plinio Pulgarín, killed on the 18th of January,  was also a signatory of that agreement.

This zone has been known to be under the control of Autodefensas Gaitanistas de Colombia, a military branch of the Clan del Golfo.
