Bhola Sah

On December 23 2018,while Mr Bhola Sah was supervising the construction of his house in Banarjhop village in Banka district, when he was asked by some men in an SUV to accompany them to the local police station.

They said he had been summoned by the station in-charge(SHO). When he did not return home, his family members inquired from the police official, who denied having called Mr. Sah. Later his body was later found near an embankment with several injury marks.

From the past work of Mr. Bhola Sah as a RTI activist and human right defender, it is anticipated that he was murdered for having exposed financial irregularities in government social welfare schemes in his panchayat. According to the police, Sah had sought information on alleged misappropriation of funds under several schemes.

This is the fifth killing of an RTI activist in Bihar in 2018 — the highest in eight years.
