Cesar Carreon

Despite limited information, it is reported that Cesar Carreon, a farmer activist from Mexico, Pampanga, The Philippines, was abducted and later violently murdered by alleged state actors, on the 17 of October 2018.

Carreon was a member of Anakpawis Mexico Pampanga, a movement that seeks agrarian reform, redistribution of land for landless peasants, increase wage and conditions for laborers and work and is, overall, pro-peasant in its representation.

Carreon’s death sadly illustrates the dangers of rights defenders such as Carreon and the violent opposition they face within a climate of impunity within the Philippines.
