Cristián Emilio Jaimes Triana

Cristian Emilio Jaimes Triana, 23, was an edil, or elected member of the neighbourhood council, and was studying accounting. According to the commander of the Metropolitan Police of Bucaramanga, Brigadier General Manuel Antonio Vásquez Prada, his murder was the result of a confrontation that took place while Cristian was chasing down a thief on 26/02/18.

“The police arrived on the scene in order to control the situation. At that moment a man known by the nickname of ‘Cilindro’ appeared. Without saying a word and having nothing to do with the matter, he stabbed Cristian in the chest. The aggressor was immediately captured,” said Commander Vásquez.

An edil’s main task is to identify the problems and needs of their community, and thus serve as a channel to find and implement solutions. Cristian viewed it as very important work, and the community admired his enterprising approach and dedication.
