Florencio Pérez Nájera

The body of Florencio Pérez Nájera was found on the 4 June, 2018, next to that of his companion Alejandro Hernández García. Both men had several wounds made by a sharp object that was probably a machete. The pair had participated in a meeting in the community of Llano Largo, in the department of Jutiapa, a few days earlier but never returned. Florencio, like Alejandro, was a member of the Los Cerritos Jutiapa branch of the Committee for Comité de Desarrollo Campesino (CODECA.)

Florencio was father to five children. He focused on the rights to land and territory, the rights of agricultural workers and the nationalization of private services.

In the month of May four other Guatemalan human rights defenders, all campesino leaders, were killed. They are Mateo Chamán Paau, Luis Arturo Marroquin, José Can Xol y Ramón Choc Sacrab.
