James Flores

On the 6th of January 2018, indigenous land rights activist James Flores was gunned down by an unknown shooter on a motorbike in Tagum City, Davao del Norte, in the Philippines.

Flores, a 33-year-old farmer and member of the Pederasyon sa tanang Asosasyon sa mga Mag-uuma ug Lumad sa Agusan ug Davao (Federation of Peasant and Indigenous Peoples’ Associations of Agusan and Davao or Pamulad) was murdered while loading his groceries to his motorbike. Flores was an active and passionate peasant rights and land activist.

Under Duterte’s administration, indigenous land right activists have been targeted by military and police officials that have left many activists killed without any recourse to justice.
