57 year old José Ribamar Rocha, aka “Gongo Assado”, was shot dead in front of his home in Tibirizinho neighborhood, São Luís County, State of Maranhão, on July 17, 2016. The assailants were hooded and shot him several times before fleeing.
The police believe the crime was committed by a criminal faction that constantly terrorizes the city, because José Ribamar Rocha was the President of Tibirizinho’s Neighborhood Residents’ Association and several community leaders were killed in the past few years in the State of Maranhão for going against the interests of local criminal factions.
