Juan Mateo Pop Cholóm, 37 years old, born in El Pajal San Pedro Carcha, was a forestry engineer at the National Institute of Forests (INAB).
On 13th April 2016, Héctor was ambushed and shot dead by gunmen in San Pedro Carchá, Alta Verapaz. Héctor was in a car with two other engineers at the INAB, Juan Mateo Pop Cholóm y Benedicto de Jesús Gutiérrez Rosa, who also died in the ambush. The three engineers were returning home from a finca where they had been working for the day.
