On August 18 2016, , Luciano Ferreira de Andrade was shot dead as he was coming out of a bank in the city center of Mirante da Serra, Rondônia, Brazil. He lost his life on the crime site.
Luciano, 41 years old, was a member of Grupo Gedeão and was the person leading the occupation of lands in the region of Vale do Jamari, municipality of Ariquemes, state of Rondônia.
The rural worker acted in favour of the expropriation of the Fluminense farm, in Monte Negro, together with several families, defending their right to land.
Rondônia is the Brazilian state that concentrates the largest number of killings linked to the fight for land. Luciano Ferreira de Andrade was a victim of those who seek to silence the most vulnerable but the voice of the ones who stayed and cried his death remain strong; human rights are not negotiable.
