Luis Mario Tálaga Wallis

Luis Mario Tálaga Wallis, 40, was a member of the governing body of the National Union of Agricultural Industry Workers –SINTRAINAGRO. He was also the local Florida representative for the Valle del Cauca.

In addition, he was the founder of the National Union of Cane Cutters –SINALCORTEROS. He had participated in the 2005 and 2008 strikes and had been elected as a union delegate. He was part of the union’s negotiating team. He had worked as a cane cutter since 1994.

Luis Mario was last seen on the morning of Thursday 20 February 2020, in Puerto Tejado, when he left home to go to work. When he failed to return he was reported disappeared and three days later his body was found by fishermen in the Cauca River in the township of El Hormiguero, in the city of Cali. He had been shot.
