Luis Pérez García

Luis Pérez García, 80, was murdered on 10 July 2018 after being hit on the head by unidentified persons who entered his house in the Iztapalapa neighbourhood of Mexico City and who then set fire to his home to hide the crime.

Luis was editor of the magazine ‘Encuesta de Hoy’. He was also a member of the National Association of Mexican Broadcasters, was a social activist and his home was used as the office of the Neighbourhood Committee.

“Once again we highlight the exponential increase in these crimes committed by enemies of free press and expression, whose figures are a truly terrifying,” the Federation of Mexican Journalists’ Associations stated, “the organized guild is redoubling its demand for justice and the implementation of protective measures for journalists, media workers, and their family and friends who have also been victims, even directly, to intimidate journalists”.
