Manuel Salvador Trujillo Villagrán

Manuel Salvador Trujillo Villagrána, a journalist and spokesman of the San Jorge municipality in the northeastern Guatemalan state of Zacapa, was murdered on 19 January 2017.

Local media reported that he was riding his motorcycle when unidentified assailants intercepted him and shot him several times. Manuel also worked for a local television channel. He previously collaborated with several local media. Colleagues said Trujillo had received threats from a group calling itself “Angels of Justice”.

Marcos Oswaldo Azurdia Chávez, 25, was arrested in March 2018 having been accused of Manuel’s murder.
