Miguel Eduardo Parra Rondón

On the 25th of January National Army of Colombia, Colombian Air Force and National Policy sent a unit to the Chitagá municipality to capture members of the ELN (National Liberation Army). Miguel Eduardo Parra Rondón was killed during those military operations. He was the president of the JAC for the El Roble region. He was in the middle of doing a milk run when that happened, he tried to run and get away from the shooting.

According to the statement given by the Asociación Municipal, Miquel Eduardo was a civilian and was not trying to get involved the fighting. Despite claims made by the military authorities, he wasn’t a part of the ELN.

According to the Deputy of Chitagá, Miquel Eduardo was well known in his region for his environmental activities and as was an active social activist for his local community. He also adds that this killing was a grave human rights’ violation as well as a violation of the International Humanitarian Law. He called for an investigation to ensure the rights of the victims.
