Sixto Bagasala

Sixto V. Bagasala Jr. was shot to death on Saturday, February 15, 2014 when he was going home after a meeting with informal settlers’ associations in Malabon City.

Also known as Ka Jun, Sixto was a leader of the local association of informal settlers in the region of Malabon. He and members of local organizations were leading an effort for the construction of medium-rise buildings to be financed through the High-Density Housing (HDH) Program of the Social Housing Finance Corporation. This project was aimed at providing decent housing for informal settlers living along waterways and other danger zones.

Sixto was also known for facilitating the dialogue between the urban poor communities and the government, as well as solving tensions among communities.
