Sonia Rosero

Doctor Sonia Rosero, known for defending the rights of women, died on Wednesday, January 27 2019, after spending 48 hours in a high-level medical center after suffering an attack in Putumayo.

Sonia was shot by two strangers, while holding a meeting with a group of friends in her medical clinic in the municipality of Puerto Asís.

Sonia was transferred to the local hospital where they stabilized her and referred her to a hospital in the city of Pasto, under extreme security measures escorted by staff from army; After being operated on and after 48 hours in that hospital, when she was being prepared for another surgery, she died, apparently due to heart failure.

Rosero’s death was confirmed by Marino Paternina, a personal friend of the victim. After receiving bullet wounds in the abdomen, Sonia had to undergo surgery, it was at that moment when she died. “Sonia died because she had a sudden cardiac arrest (…) in the operating room.”

With the death of Sonia Rosero, the number of women murdered in the municipalities of Puerto Asís,Villagarzón and Guamuez Valley had risen to five.
