Héctor Orlando Martínez Motiño

University professor and Labor Rights Defender, Héctor Martínez Motiño was 53 years old, was co-founder of the Regional University Center of the Pacific Coast -CURLP, coordinator and teacher of the International Trade, and a collaborator of the Network of Trade Unionists against the Anti-union violence, made up of the three unions, the AFL-CIO, Centro de Solidaridad and ACIPARTICIPA.

On the day of his murder, he had been working for the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH) for 19 years. He excelled among his peers for his willingness to serve others what led him to occupy leading positions within the Trade Union of Workers of the National Autonomous University of Honduras, SITRAUNAH. He was president of SITRAUNAH unanimously elected within the union assembly.

As a union leader, he always supported colleagues who were facing harassment and persecution within the CURLP. During the 2014-2015 year he documented more than 30 cases of labour rights violations, cases which unfortunately today are shelved by the organs of justice, and until the day of his death a student who reported to the Academic Secretary of the CURLP for sexual harassment.

The murder of Héctor Motiño occurred after a human rights investigating commission arrived at CURLP to verify all the denunciations made by comrade Héctor. On May 19 of that same year (2015), the Inter-American Court of Human Rights granted him Precautionary Measures.
