Moisés Durón was an important peasant and indigenous leader, an active member of the National Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH) and leader for the recovery of community lands in the community of Somolagua, in the department of Santa Bárbara, Honduras.

He was shot dead on the afternoon of May 20, 2015, by alleged hit men in the community of Somolagua.

His murder occurred in the context of the process of recovery of land, seized from 25 families from the community of Somolagua, by a family of land owners. There are concerns of the involvement, on the land seizure, of members of the National Congress, some agents of the National Police and the National Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DNIC), who defame and slander members of COPINH, calling them terrorists and who have criminalized and persecuted the legitimate act of defending the territory and fighting for the recovery of community lands, exercised by the 25 families of the community of Somolagua.
