Héctor Joel Saquil Choc

On 13th April 2016, Héctor Joel Saquil Choc, 29 years old, was ambushed and shot dead by gunmen in San Pedro Carchá, Alta Verapaz. Héctor was in a car with two other engineers at the INAB, Juan Mateo Pop Cholóm y Benedicto de Jesús Gutiérrez Rosa, who also died in the ambush.

Héctor was a forestry engineer at the National Institute of Forests (INAB). He lived in the city of Cobán and was the administrator of the San Jerónimo finca. Owing to his work as an administrator, the San Jeronimo local government incorporated the finca into the municipal forestry plan that has been in place in the town since 2006.
