On the 21st of April 2016, 43 year old Ángel Sandoval, president of El Porvenir local committee, in Choloma, Cortes City was found dead.
Angel Sandoval was originally from the district of Colon but was living in Choloma. He was at home when he got a call and drove off to meet someone, which leads investigators to believe that it was a targeted killing.
The crime took place when Sandoval had stopped to have a conversation with colleagues. Suddenly, armed men appeared and shot him dead. The previous year his wife had been attacked with machetes by members of another group with whom they were in a dispute over land.
