Gildardo Antonio Valdés was well known as the treasurer of the Community Action Board in the village of Concha Abajo. There have been a few differing accounts about the date on which Gildardo was murdered. It is said that he was killed while in a nightclub called Apocalipto in Anorí. While it is reported by Somos Defensores that he died on the 28 of February there are also reports, however,of later dates of March 15 or 29. It is uncertain exactly who killed him but there is speculation among Somos Defensores and the CCEEU that the ELN, Colombia’s second largest rebel group, or paramilitary groups were involved.
