Liliana Patricia Cataño Montoya

On October 18 2017,  Liliana Patricia Cataño Montoya, 39, was shot four times near her home in El Socorro. She was brought to the hospital by her neighbours but she was  declared dead on arrival. In previous weeks she had been actively campaigning for the recovery of certain pieces of disputed land in the area.

Liliana worked for many causes in her area including land issues and helping people whose homes had been burned down. While she is said to have reported criminal activity in her neighbourhood, particularly about gangs selling areas of land that did not belong to them, there were no known threats against her.
