Harley Johanny Mogollón Becerra

Harley Mogollón Becerra was a social leader and served as the regional coordinator of the National Farmer’s Association “ASONALCA” in District No. 1, Arauca Department, as well as being a member of the Peasant Guard. Through this he supported the land rights of peasant communities, clean food production, and civilians’ rights.

On the 22nd of January 2018, he and his wife were abducted by men on a motorcycle and Harley was shot several times in the neighbourhood of Cabeceras del Llano.

The community leader was travelling on a motorcycle with his wife, and arriving at the Cabeceras del Llano neighbourhood, near the site known as the embankment was forced to get down from the motorcycle by two armed people, one of whom fired several shots killing him instantly.

Movimiento Político has repeatedly asked the Colombian State to provide protection to safeguard the life and integrity of its leaders and to allow them to carry out their human rights work in total security. To date there has been no response to their requests. This latest death brings to nine the number of community leaders killed in January 2018 in Arauca Department, challenging the popularly held view that the war is over. Five of the killings were carried out by law enforcement agents.
