Cristian Camilo Toro Rodas

Cristian Camilo Toro Rodas, former councilman of the town of Quimbaya in Quindio, Colombia, was shot to death in the city centre on 17/02/2018. A former civil servant and businessman, he was 38 years old and had also been the manager of a local company. Toro’s death caused consternation in the local community because he “was very well-loved in this town”, as affirmed by a community leader consulted by the media. The mayor of the Quimbaya, Jaime Andrés Pérez Cotrino, wrote a heartfelt message of condolence on his Facebook profile in which he described Toro as an “adventurer one couldn’t keep up with, a leader, a man of the people.”

Toro was councilor of Quimbaya during the years of 2012 – 2016 and currently served as local coordinator Luz Piedad Valencia’s senatorial campaign, as well as running-mate for the House of Representatives, Ánuar Oyola. According to Toro’s relatives, he had planned to run for mayor.
