Cristian Andrey Rodríguez Sánchez, 19, was identified the man killed on a road in La Esperanza, in Hacarí. The young man was found shot with several shots.

According to Colonel George Quintero, commander of the Police Department of Norte de Santander (Denor), investigations are being conducted to clarify this murder that has devastated yet another Catatumbo family.

He stressed that the preliminary investigations of the Criminal Investigation Section (Sijín) suggest that members of “Los Pelusos”, the name which the authorities have given to a unit of the People’s Liberation Army (Epl), which is alleged to have committed the killing.

The rates of violence in the Catatumbo area are high due to the actions of the illegal armed groups, mainly the National Liberation Army (ELN) and the EPL, which maintain a constant struggle for control of the territory and the drug trafficking business.
