Victor Chechegamo Tocobio


On Monday, August 6, the lifeless body of a man in a wooded area of ​​the Dai Umada Mía indigenous settlement was found in the hamlet of La Cabaña, a rural area in the municipality of El Dovio. The corpse, according to the authorities, presented multiple wounds caused by a firearm, injuries that led to his death at the scene.

The inhabitants of the area did not believe what they saw, the victim was the Chaman leader Víctor Chechegamo Tocobio, known as Mayor Jaibana, which means Chaman leader.

The lifeless body of the victim had to be transferred to the Legal Medicine facility in Roldanillo where the doctors were responsible for preparing the body for delivery to the family, so that they could give him Christian burial.

Major Jaibana Víctor Chechegamo Tocobio, who was 68 years old, was a resident of the Dai Umada Mia indigenous settlement, where the events that cost him his life took place. He belonged to the indigenous community Dai Umada Mía, from the rural area of ​​El Dovio.

A statement the autonomous council of the Valle del Cauca Indigenous Regional Organization-Orivac condemned the murder, and asked the authorities to clarify this new bloddy act that saddens the indigenous community.

It is important to remember that on May 28, in the village of La María, rural area of ​​the municipality of El Dovio, Amilcar Yagarí Siegama, an indigenous leader belonging to the Embera Chami indigenous community, of the Jai Kera reservation, was shot dead.

So there are already two indigenous leaders who in isolated events so far this year have been killed in the rural area of ​​the municipality of El Dovio.
