Camilo Pérez Álvarez

Camilo Pérez Álvarez, leader of the Movement of Triqui Unification and Struggle (MULT for its Spanish acronym), was “ambushed and shot” in the Ladera area of La Sabana Copala, Oaxaca on 3 April 2019.

In a statement the MULT said that “Camilo was the leader of his community Ojo de Agua, he was an unrelenting defender of Triqui territory, and this crime was committed in the midst of the search for a Peace and Concord Agreement for the Triqui Region”.

The MULT demanded that the Peace and Concord Agreement for the Triqui Region be signed immediately to strengthen peace in the area.

“Since 16 December 2016 we have been asking the governor (Alejandro Murat Hinojosa) for a security team in the Triqui region and above all surveillance on pedestrians and vehicles travelling from Huajuapan to the coast. The general response is none, refusal, disinterested”, Sergio Cruz, one of the organization’s leaders, stated.
