With break dance and music playing on the turntables, hundreds of relatives and friends this Tuesday said “the last goodbye” to Héctor Mauricio Rosas Hernández, alias “Mub Times”, in the pvillion of Jardines del Tiempo I.

Mauricio was a DJ who promoted peace in the city, but was killed on Sunday afternoon when he out promoting programmes to help prevent young people from getting into trouble in the Obrera neighbourhood. He did this through the programmes managed by Association Mundo Ritual, A.C., which he created and founded.

“Mub” was the vice president of the organisation “Original Skills RKZ World Wide” and every week he visited public housing precincts to live with the new generations of young people he was trying to help. Staff of the Public Security Secretariat of León reported that Héctor had no record of arrests, so his file is “clean.” This after they had previously said that said he had a criminal record.

“Mau was a victim of violence and injustice in his own neighbourhood, where he grew up and where he sought to help and remove young people from risky situations,” said a close friend.

He was an artist and activist
According to colleagues Héctor invested his time and energy in different disciplines such as: break dance, rap, graffiti, skate and beat box. His friends said that through musical and sports activities “Mub Times” sought to spot and promote the talent of young people in the poorest neighbourhoods of the city, supporting workshops and activities where he promoted positive values. Héctor had great charisma and the desire to support those who needed it most; he collected clothes, toys and food to distribute them in marginalsed communities.

Mub’s strategies transcended borders
Acquaintances added that there are hundreds of projects in which Héctor got involved some of which are already being implemented in other countries; his most recent projects focused on rescuing young people from crime and violence and sharing knowledge.

One example often mentioned was “Juventud Activa, ITZ” (a free thinking space), Gira Extrema and the 10 scholarships for talents this year that will be awarded to young people from the neighbourhood. They also described him as a promoter of peace, community and respect, which he promoted with his trade approach of openness and simplicity.

“His passion to contribute to the common good will definitely leave a mark on the hearts of the thousands of people he supported,” said a relative.
