María del Carmen Flórez, a bisexual woman and community leader in the Altos del Norte neighbourhood, was attacked by two gunmen. María, 37, was shot several times on the morning of 16 May and died as a result of her injuries. She was travelling on motorbike when two hitmen intercepted her and shot her three times. 

María was a recognised community leader in the Ocaña area and she actively participated in several political campaigns. She was on the list of internally displaced persons and was working as a contractor with the mayor’s office at the time of her death.
