Pedro Elias Calderón Ardila was a well known and respected shopkeeper and community leader in Barrio Santa Fe, Arauca. He was the treasurer for the local Junta de Acción Comunal, (Community Action Board) and he was also the local representative on the Asociación de Juntas de Acción Comunal de Arauca (Association of Community Action Boards of Arauca).
On 30 April, 2020, he was found dead in his shop. He had been stabbed once in the back. Neighbours were able to confirm that the killer had been seen in the shop once before.
