On April 19, at around 9:30 p.m., muralist Héctor Armando Domínguez, 27 years old, was murdered by armed individuals who entered his house, located in the Bonifacia Salinas sector of Ciudad Valles, in San Luis Potosi. In the attack, the criminals also took the life of his father Aureliano Domínguez, and his brother Julio Emmanuel Domínguez Rodríguez, who was the director of the Colegio de Bachilleres in the municipality of Ébano.

According to information cited by El Universal, on Friday night several armed individuals entered the house of the muralist and, without further ado, opened fire on Hector Dominguez and his relatives. Neighbours in the area heard the shots and immediately called the police, however when the emergency services arrived it was already too late, as the three men had lost their lives due to the bullet impacts they received.

It is worth mentioning that on September 29 of last year, Héctor Domínguez was the target of another attack on the outskirts of Colegio de Bachilleres 06, where he taught plastic arts. Although Héctor escaped unharmed from that incident, it is unknown if the authorities granted him any kind of protection. Weeks before that attack, the largest mural Hector had painted in Ciudad Valles was smeared with black paint by unknown people, something that led him to no longer paint things in that area of San Luis Potosí.

Known for his murals and for his activist work in favor of the environment, Héctor Domínguez and a group of people founded the collective ‘Fénix Art’ almost a decade ago. With him, the young people began to paint murals in urban areas of Ciudad Valles and Huasteca, and his work was not only known in his locality, but in other parts of the world, since he always distinguished himself by reflecting in his works the color and the natural and cultural wealth of the Huasteca potosina.
