Business man Jesús García died on 8 May 2019 after being injured in an attack in the historic centre of Cuernavaca, Morelos. The incident occurred at around 10.00 am during a protest held by traders. An unknown armed man walked through the protesters until he found Jesús García, who was standing beside the head of the Confederation of Mexican Workers (CTM) Roberto Castrejón and his sons, and shot him at least three times and then shot the son of the trade union leader and a cameraman. The attacker tried to flee but was detained. It was confirmed by authorities that Roberto Castrejón Jr. died on the operating table of the IMSS hospital at around 12.20 pm.
Jesús García was the leader of section 15 of the CTM. He was a PRI loyalist and ran in the previous elections for governor of Morelos but was beaten by Jorge Meade Ocaranza. Don Chuy, as he was called, was the father of Juan Manuel García Bejarano, who was the organizer of the Cuernavaca Carnival 2017 and who was murdered during the inauguration parade.
