On Thursday 16th of February 2017, Eberto Gómez Mora, 52 years old was shot dead in the yard of his house. Mora was the president of Junta de Acción Comunal in San José del Man neighnourhood in the region of Cáceres.
The authors of the crime entered the leader’s house in night time and shot him several times killing him. Keen on his work as president of Junta de Acción Comunal, Mora was opposed to the activities of the paramilitary group “Clan del Golfo” in the area.
Jose Greogorio Medina González Alias “Lazaro” (39 years old) and Mario Alberto Bustamante Martinez alias “Yeison” (28 years old) both leaders of the Gulf Clan in Bajo Cauca, Antioquia were arrested in June 2017 for being guns for hire and as being the prime suspects in the killing of Eberto.
It is worth noting that Medina González, alias “Yeison”’ is under investigation for his alleged involvement in at least eight other murders between 2016 and 2017 in Taraza region.
