José Arlex Avendaño Arango, president of the Junta de Acción Comunal de La Siria, was murdered by still unidentified assasins on 17 June 2014. he was 43 years of age.

In his murder, he received from 6 shots in different parts of the body.

The Junta de Acción Comunal is a fundamental pillar in the Peace and Conflict process that Colombia is going through, and is decisive in the construction and implementation of this process.

The leader was also a member of the Asociación de Trabajadores Campesinos del Valle de Cauca, of the Consejo Municipal de Planeación, of the Comité Municipal de Estratificación and of the Comité de Desarrollo Rural from the San Pedro municipality.
