Luis Carlos Gómez, 50 years old, was president of the Junta de Acción Comunal (Community Action Board) in the village of Aterrado, in Cimitarra, Norte de Santander. He was also well known for his community leadership.
On 30 July, 2020 his body was found with no vital signs, displaying gunshot wounds, on the side of the road near the Cajibío battalion, in the village of Puerto Olaya. Apparently, he was attacked as he was leaving his work.
There were no known threats against him but there had been a series of attacks on community leaders in the area.
