Luis Eduardo Dagua Conda, aged 67, a prominent social leader in Cauca, was beaten to death on Sunday, July 15, 2018. When he was found the next day by some peasants, his face and neck showed severe signs of torture and seemed to have been beaten with rocks. Reportedly, a group of military men were stationed at his farm in the afternoon of Sunday.

Luis Eduardo was not only one of the founders of the Carmelo village of the Municipality of Caloto, Cauca, but he was also a member of various social organizations, where he held different positions: Junta de Acción Comunal of Villa El Carmelo, Asociación de Trabajadores Pro-Constitución Zonas de Reserva Campesina de Caloto (ASTRAZONACAL), Federación Nacional Sindical Unitaria Agropecuaria (FENSUAGRO-CUT), Proceso de Unidad Popular del Suroccidente Colombiano (PUPSOC) and Marcha Patriótica del Cauca.

Because his son, Eduardo Dagua, is a former FARC-EP combatant the police authorities refuse to consider Luis Eduardo as a human rights defender.
