Alphonse Luanda Kalyamba

Alphonse Luanda Kalyamba was the director of CERAO which stands for Centre d’enfants Rescapés non Accompagnés et Orphelins- the Centre for unaccompanied rescued children and orphans, a NGO created with the objective to help ex- child soldiers in the programme of Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR).

During his career, Kaliyamba helped the children who had been enrolled by force in the army and who have been traumatised during the wars, to come to a normal civilian life by creating social activities and managing shelters for them.

His contribution to the defence of the rights of the children in North Kivu, had a significant positive impact on the population of this part of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the sense that thanks to his work, many children have been saved from the horrors of war.

His remarkable work will be remembered forever.
