Ana Cláudia Barros

Ana Cláudia Barros, known as Socorro, 53, was a community leader in the community of Vila União.  She was shot and killed on June 09, 2015. At the time, she was in her sister’s house, located in the Municipality of São Luís, Maranhão state, when two man on board a motorcycle attacked.

Sources affirm that the leader had reported to authorities threats that she had been threatened by a drug-dealer, a few days before the attack.

A men called Francisco das Chagas Souza was arrested, because of his suspected involvement in Ana’s death.

She was well know for her commitment to the struggle for social rights in the outskirts of São Luís.
