Audberto Riascos

Sixty year old Audberto Riascos was an afrodescendant community leader and a member of the Community Council of El Playón in López de Micay, Cauca. As a community authority he used his knowledge to mediate in community disputes and also campaigned for the protection of land rights and cultural values.

On 1 November, 2020, Audberto was shot dead, and one other person,  Rocío Alomía Mantilla  was also killed when armed men invaded the community. It is believed that the killing is connected to attempts by dissident elements of the FARC to establish control of the area by targeting community leaders.
