Benedicto de Jesús Gutiérrez Rosa, 30 years old, born in the city of Prócer, Chiquimula, was a forestry engineer at the National Institute of Forests (INAB).
On 13th April 2016, Benedicto was ambushed and shot dead by gunmen in San Pedro Carchá, Alta Verapaz. Benedicto was in a car with two other engineers at the INAB, Juan Mateo Pop Cholóm y Héctor Joel Saquil Choc, who also died in the ambush. The three engineers were returning home from a finca where they had been working for the day.
