Carmen Ángel Avendaño Yarudo was president of the Junta de Acción comunal (Community Action Board) in the village of El Hoyo in the municipality of Convención, Norte de Santander.
On 23 June, 2020, Carmen Ángel was killed when armed men came up to him as he was working in the fields and shot him dead.
Two years ago his son Jesús was murdered in unexplained circumstances.
