Carol Machado

Brazilian trans-gender activist, known as Carol Machado, was shot, on 18 October 2018, one day after her birthday. The murder took place in Xaxim, Santa Catarina, Brazil.

After the killing, her body was left on the edge of the rural road and was found lifeless at 7 am.

She was well known for her commitment to the struggle for LGBTI rights.  Carol Machado worked as secretary general of an organization called National Union (UNA) LGBT in Xanxerê, Santa Catarina.

According to the organisation Carol had legally changed her name a short time before the attack and if it hadnt been for this tragic event she would have continued her studies.

Moreover, the political party called PSOL (Xanxerê) issued a statement of symnpathy in relation to Carol’s death.
