Darwin Rene Bisbicus Guanga

Seventeen year old Darwin Rene Bisbicus had been working for two years as part of the Guardia Indígena (Indigenous Guard) of the Awá people on the Inda Sabaleta reservation in the village of Llorente in Tumaco.

On 5 December, 2020, Darwin was travelling by motorbike to visit his grandparents in Ricaurte. Near the village of La Viña, in the area of La Guayacana, he was intercepted by a group of armed men in a car who forced him to get into the car and took him to an unknown location.

When the Awá people heard of the kidnapping they organised a search party and on 9 December they found his body in an unmarked grave near where he had been kidnapped.

The killing of Darwin brought to twenty the number of Awá people killed in Nariño in 2020.
