Didier Losada Barreto

On the night of Friday 18 November 2016, two hooded men burst into Didier Losada Barreto’s house in the village of Platanillo, in the municipality of La Uribe (Meta), and shot him dead at close range in front of his wife and children.

Didier, also known by the nickname ‘Mango’, came from a family of community leaders. The 28-year-old was President of El Platanillo Community Action Board (Junta de Acción Comunal) in San Juan de Lozada. He also belonged to Losada Guayabero Ascal – G, an environmental and peasant association that denounced the presence of paramilitary groups in the region and opposes oil exploitation projects. Didier, was also part of the socio-political movement Marcha Patriótica.

The movement advocates for a negotiated solution to the armed conflict, reparations for victims, agrarian reform and popular sovereignty.

By the end of 2016, the organization had confirmed the murder of 17 of its leaders, in addition to a total of 123 members killed since its founding.
