Eberto Julio Gomez Mora

On Thursday 16th of February 2017, Eberto Gomez Mora, 52 years old was shot dead in the yard of his house.

Mora was the president of Junta de Acción Communal in San Jose del Man neighbourhood in the region of Carceres. The authors of the crime entered the leader’s house in night time and shot him several times causing his immediate death.

Keen on his work as president of Junta de Accion Comunal, Mora was opposed to the activities of paramilitary group the Gulf Clan in the area.

Jose Greogorio Medina Gonzalez Alias “Lazaro” (39 years old) and Mario Alberto Bustamante Martinez alias “Yeison” (28 years old) both leaders of the Gulf Clan in Bajo Cauca, Antioquia were arrested in June 2017 for being guns for hire and as being the prime suspects in the killing of Eberto.

It is worth noting that Medina Gonzalez, alias “Yeison”’ is under investigation for his alleged involvement in at least eight other murders between 2016 and 2017 in Taraza region.
