Edmiro Leon Alzate Londono

Edmiro Leon Alzate Londono, a 53 years old man was an active member of MOVETE (Movement for Life and Defence of Territory) which objective was especially focused on water issues. He went missing on January 12 and his body was found on January 14 in Sonsón, Antioquia.

In fact, Edmiro was an active campaigner for the rights of peasant communities. He was well known for his concern about the use of water, particularly the protection of the main water sources in the area as well as the broader issue of community development.

He was particularly opposed to the water price that the hydro-electric projects companies imposed to the residents in their property.
