Elkin David Marcelo Chacón

Martelo Elkin David Chacón, known as Danny, was an LGBTI+ activist and a member of the Mesa Diversa, (Diversity Committee), in El Bagre, Antioquia. He worked as a hairdresser.

On the evening of 8 December, 2020, Danny was sitting outside his house with his family when two gunmen on a motorbike pulled up and shot him dead. One of his nephews was injured in the attack.

Following the attack, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Colombia, spoke about it, condemning this latest act of lethal violence..

In a statement posted on its Twitter account the organisation stated: “We condemn the murder last night of Elkin David Martelo Chacón, known as Danny Chacón in El Bagre, Antioquia. Danny was one of our partners, a visible advocate and leader of the LGBTI community. He belonged to the “Mesa Diversa” and had just completed a training programme in human rights.”
