Flover Sapuyes Gaviria

Flover Sapuyes Gaviria was the treasurer of the Committee of Coca, Poppy and Marijuana Growers (COCCAM) in the village of La Esperanza, Balboa. COCCAM is an organisation involved in advocating for the substitution of these plantations for food crops, in line with Colombia’s recent peace accords. An HRD and member of the Patriotic March movement, Flover was also an active member of the Peasant Workers Association of Balboa (Ascatbal.)

Flover was killed on 23/02/2018 in the vicinity of his home when an armed man on a motorcycle fired at him. According to the human rights organizations that denounced his murder, Flover ran for his life, but his aggressor continued to shoot. The HRD died of five bullet wounds.
